Activated alumina, as a desiccant, absorbs moisture from compressed air during the adsorption process of the vacuum dryer. During the regeneration process of the vacuum dryer, activated alumina loses moisture and remains dry again to meet the next adsorption requirement. Aluminum oxide is a porous material with a specific surface area of up to 300 square meters per gram of aluminum oxide. Its physical properties determine its strong adsorption capacity for molecules such as water, and this adsorption capacity changes with the change of adsorption temperature. The lower the adsorption temperature, the stronger the adsorption capacity of the adsorbent. When compressed air containing water passes through an adsorber filled with activated alumina, utilizing the physical properties of alumina mentioned earlier, the water in the compressed air is adsorbed into the huge pores of alumina, thereby achieving the goal of drying compressed air. When alumina works for a certain period of time and the adsorbed water reaches saturation equilibrium, it will no longer adsorb water from compressed air. Due to the characteristic of alumina's adsorption capacity changing with temperature, it can be heated to restore its adsorption capacity. It is precisely because activated alumina possesses these characteristics that we can recycle it through heating and regeneration, which enables its widespread use in practical industrial applications. The lifespan of activated alumina varies depending on the temperature of the intake air, ranging from 2 to 6 years. It can be determined whether a desiccant is needed based on the filter after the dryer. If the filter drains water, it is necessary to immediately replace it with activated alumina desiccant. It can also be determined based on the form of the desiccant and the actual situation of the gas end. The hazards of using desiccants beyond the specified period include the loss of activity of activated alumina desiccants, inability to drain water, exceeding the standard water content in compressed air, affecting the normal operation of gas equipment and the production quality of products, failure of activated alumina desiccants, and the shedding of active powder, which affects the service life of the suction dryer.
